To be quite honest with you, I have been struggling over what to write here for a while now, and I figure that you’re most likely going to skim this section, as the true purpose of your entering my website is to see my work and not my words, so I’ll use this space to candidly give you a sense of the person I am:
I am very detailed and precise when memorizing lines, blocking, music, and choreography, but if you ask me what I did last Tuesday, I would not be able to remember at all.
I have a variety of hobbies outside of theatre, including reading novels and writing letters to friends in cursive with ink, and although I also enjoy going on walks, I find that I more frequently go on tangents - the fun kind, of course.
In my early education, theatre teachers always told everyone to project more, and it has taken me many years, and quite a few reminders from my sibling, but I have finally learned how to be quiet again once I am standing only a foot away from someone.
I may be fiercely loyal and enthusiastic toward my friends and family, am dedicated and meticulous in both my work and personal life, and can even be impulsive or careful depending on the situation, but I somehow still have difficulty (find it near impossible) making simple decisions when the outcome is unimportant, such as which exact shade of pink to use on this website.
If you prefer to know about my emotional history with theatre, I will happily present you with a few more sentences:
Ever since I first became addicted to–, excuse me, enamored with theatre, I have been pursuing it through my studies and any performance opportunities I could find. Just like in the fairy tales and children’s books that I have adored ever since I was young, in many shows, the villains receive karma for their misdeeds and the protagonists have a happy ending, ultimately creating a very satisfying sense of catharsis for the audience and directly igniting my passion for the beauty and wonders of the stage.
As I grew up, I found that these were not the only stories being told and that there exist plays and musicals where villains go unpunished or where the only evils on stage are those found in our own complex, human hearts, and where the main characters are not inherently good and can end up with their stories unfinished or unhappy or unknown. Yet I found myself perceiving these stories to be just as beautifully told and deeply touching and poignant.
The fact that the expanse of theatre can contain both the fantastical and the mundane, the uplifting and the depressing, the humorous and the horrifying, and so many more expressions of life and of people is enthralling to me. However, rather than creating such mystifying worlds through the brilliance of various design elements, I have always preferred to live in and explore those worlds through the myriad of characters that inhabit them. And so I act.
